F Psalm 51, Chant A

Chant A

Psalm 51  Miserere mei, Deus

1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your loving-kind-ness; *
in your great compassion blot out my of-fen-ses.

2 Wash me through and through from my wic-kedness *
and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I know my trans-gres-sions, *
and my sin is ever be-fore me.

4 Against you only have I sinned *
and done what is evil in your sight.

Chant A

5 And so you are justified when you speak *
and upright in your judg-ment.

6 Indeed, I have been wicked from my birth, *
a sinner from my mo-ther’s womb.

7 For behold, you look for truth deep with-in me, *
and will make me understand wis-dom se-cretly.

8 Purge me from my sin, and I shall be pure; *
wash me, and I shall be clean in-deed.

Chant A

9 Make me hear of joy and glad-ness, *
that the body you have broken may re-joice.

10 Hide your face from my sins *
and blot out all my i-ni-quities.

11 Create in me a clean heart, O God, *
and renew a right spirit with-in me.

12 Cast me not away from your pres-ence *
and take not your holy Spir-it from me.
Chant A

13 Give me the joy of your saving help again *
and sustain me with your boun-tiful Spir-it.

14 I shall teach your ways to the wic-ked, *
and sinners shall re-turn to you.

15 Deliver me from death, O God, *
and my tongue shall sing of your righteousness, O God of my sal-va-tion.

16 Open my lips, O Lord, *
and my mouth shall pro-claim your praise.

Chant A

17 Had you desired it, I would have offered sa-crifice, *
but you take no delight in burnt-of-ferings.

18 The sacrifice of God is a troubled spir-it; *
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not des-pise.

19 Be favorable and gracious to Zi-on, *
and rebuild the walls of Je-ru-salem.

20 Then you will be pleased with the appointed sacrifices, with burnt-offerings and ob-la-tions; *
then shall they offer young bullocks up-on your al-tar.
Chant A

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spir-it: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ev-er. A-men.
