F Psalm 72, Chant B

Chant B

Psalm 72   Deus, judicium

1 Give the King your justice, O God, *
and your righteousness to the King’s daugh-ter;

2 That she may rule your people right-eously *
and the poor with jus-tice.

3 That the mountains may bring prosperity to the peo-ple, *
and the little hills bring right-eousness.

4 She shall defend the needy among the peo-ple; *
she shall rescue the poor and crush the op-pres-sor.

Chant B

5 She shall live as long as the sun and moon en-dure, *
from one generation to a-no-ther.

6 She shall come down like rain upon the mown field, *
like showers that water the earth.

7 In her time shall the righteous flour-ish; *
there shall be abundance of peace till the moon shall be no more.

8 She shall rule from sea to sea, *
and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Chant B

9 Her foes shall bow down be-fore her, *
and her enemies lick the dust.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall pay tri-bute, *
and the kings of Arabia and Saba of-fer gifts.

11 All kings shall bow down be-fore her, *
and all the nations do her ser-vice.

12 For she shall deliver the poor who cries out in dis-tress, *
and the oppressed who has no help-er.

Chant B

13 She shall have pity on the lowly and poor; *
she shall preserve the lives of the need-y.

14 She shall redeem their lives from oppression and vi-olence, *
and dear shall their blood be in her sight.

15 Long may she live! and may there be given to her gold from A-ra-bia; *
may prayer be made for her always, and may they bless her all the day long.

16 May there be abundance of grain on the earth, growing thick even on the hill-tops; *
may its fruit flourish like Lebanon, and its grain like grass upon the earth.

Chant B

17 May her Name remain for ever and be established as long as the sun en-dures; *
may all the nations bless themselves in her and call her bles-sed.

18 Blessed be the Lord GOD, the God of Is-rael, *
who alone does won-drous deeds!

19 And blessed be her glorious Name for ev-er! *
and may all the earth be filled with her glory. A-men. A-men.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spir-it: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for e-ver. A-men.
