Psalm 73\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Quam bonus Israel!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

1 Truly, God is good to<\/span> Is-rael, *<\/span>
\n to those who are pure in<\/span> heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 But as for me, my feet had near-ly<\/span> slipped; *<\/span>
\n I had almost tripped and<\/span> fal-len;<\/span><\/p>\n

3 Because I envied the<\/span> proud *<\/span>
\n and saw the prosperity of the<\/span> wic-ked:<\/span><\/p>\n

4 For they suffer no<\/span> pain, *<\/span>
\n and their bodies are sleek and<\/span> sound;<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

5 In the misfortunes of others they have no<\/span> share; *<\/span>
\n they are not afflicted as<\/span> o-thers are<\/span>;<\/span><\/p>\n

6 Therefore they wear their pride like a<\/span> neck-lace *<\/span>
\n and wrap their violence about them like a<\/span> cloak.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 Their iniquity comes from gross<\/u><\/span> minds, *<\/span>
\n and their hearts overflow with wic-ked<\/span> thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n

8 They scoff and speak ma<\/span>-li-ciously; *<\/span>
\n out of their haughtiness they plan op<\/span>-pres-sion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

9 They set their mouths a gainst the<\/span> hea-vens, *<\/span>
\n and their evil speech runs through the<\/span> world.<\/span><\/p>\n

10 And so the peo-ple<\/span> turn to them<\/span> *<\/span>
\n and find in them no<\/span> fault.<\/span><\/p>\n

11 They say, “How should<\/span> God know? *<\/span>
\n is there knowledge in the<\/span> Most<\/span> High?”<\/span><\/p>\n

12 So then, these are the<\/span> wic-ked; *<\/span>
\n always at ease, they increase their<\/span> wealth.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

13 In vain have I kept my heart<\/span> clean, *<\/span>
\n and washed my hands in<\/span> in-nocence.<\/span><\/p>\n

14 I have been afflicted all<\/span> day long, *<\/span>
\n and punished eve-ry<\/span> morn-ing.<\/span><\/p>\n

15 Had I gone on speaking<\/span> this way, *<\/span>
\n I should have betrayed the generation of your<\/span> chil-dren.<\/span><\/p>\n

16 When I tried to understand<\/span> these<\/span> things, *<\/span>
\n it was too<\/span> hard for me<\/span>;<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

17 Until I entered the sanctuary of<\/span> God *<\/span>
\n and discerned the end of the<\/span> wic-ked.<\/span><\/p>\n

18 Surely, you set them in slippery<\/span> pla-ces; *<\/span>
\n you cast them down in<\/span> ru-in.<\/span><\/p>\n

19 Oh, how suddenly do they come to des<\/span>-truc-tion, *<\/span>
\n come to an end, and perish from<\/span> ter-ror!<\/span><\/p>\n

20 Like a dream when one awakens<\/span>, O<\/span> Lord, *<\/span>
\n when you arise you will make their im-age<\/span> van-ish.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

21 When my mind became em<\/span>-bit-tered, *<\/span>
\n I was sorely wounded in my<\/span> heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

22 I was stupid and had no under<\/span>-stand-ing; *<\/span>
\n I was like a brute beast in your<\/span> pre-sence.<\/span><\/p>\n

23 Yet I am al-ways<\/span> with you; *<\/span>
\n you hold me by my right<\/span> hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

24 You will guide me by your<\/span> coun-sel, *<\/span>
\n and afterwards receive me with<\/span> glo-ry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

25 Whom have I in heaven but<\/span> you? *<\/span>
\n and having you I desire nothing upon<\/span> earth.<\/span><\/p>\n

26 Though my flesh and my heart should<\/span> waste<\/span> away, *<\/span>
\n God is the strength of my heart and my portion for<\/span> ev-er.<\/span><\/p>\n

27 Truly, those who forsake you will<\/span> per-ish; *<\/span>
\n you destroy all who are un<\/span>-faith-ful.<\/span><\/p>\n

28 But it is good for me to be<\/span>\u00a0near God; *<\/span>
\n I have made the Lord GOD my<\/span> re-fuge.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

29 I will speak of all your<\/span> works *<\/span>
\n in the gates of the city of<\/span> Zi-on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Ho-ly<\/span> Spir-it: *<\/span>
