Psalm 40<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Expectans, expectavi<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

1 I waited patiently upon the LORD<\/span>; *<\/span>
\n she stooped to me and heard<\/span> my cry.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 She lifted me out of the desolate pit, out of the mire and clay<\/span>;
\nshe set my feet upon a high cliff and made my foot<\/span>-ing sure.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 She put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God<\/span>; *
\nmany shall see, and stand in awe, and put their trust in<\/span> the LORD.<\/span><\/p>\n

4 Happy are they who trust in the LORD<\/span>! *<\/span>
\n they do not resort to evil spirits or turn to<\/span><\/span> false gods.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

5 Great things are they that you have done, O LORD my God!\u00a0how great your wonders and your plans<\/span> for us<\/span>! *<\/span>
\n there is none who can be com-pared<\/span> with you.<\/span><\/p>\n

6 Oh, that I could make them known and\u00a0tell<\/span> them! *<\/span>
\n but they are more than I<\/span> can count.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 In sacrifice and offering you take no plea<\/span>-sure *<\/span>
\n (you have given me ears<\/span> to hear you);<\/span><\/p>\n

8 Burnt-offering and sin-offering you have not\u00a0re-quired<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n and so I said, “Be-hold<\/span>, I come.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

9 In the roll of the book it is written con-cern<\/span>–ing me<\/span>: *<\/span>
\n ‘I love to do your will, O my God;\u00a0your law is deep in<\/span> my heart.'”<\/span><\/p>\n

10 I proclaimed righteousness in the great congre-ga<\/span>-tion; *<\/span>
\n behold, I did not restrain my lips;\u00a0and that, O LORD<\/span>, you know.<\/span><\/p>\n

11 Your righteousness have I not hidden in my heart;\u00a0I have spoken of your faithfulness and your de-liv<\/span>-erance; *<\/span>
\n I have not concealed your love and faithfulness from the great con<\/span>-gre-ga-tion.<\/span><\/p>\n

12 You are the LORD;\u00a0do not withhold your compassion from me<\/span>; *<\/span>
\n let your love and your faithfulness keep me safe<\/span> for ev-er,<\/span><\/p>\n

13 For innumerable troubles have crowded upon me;\u00a0my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see<\/span>; *<\/span>
\n they are more in number than the hairs of my head, and my<\/span> heart fails me.<\/span><\/p>\n

14 Be pleased, O LORD, to de-liv<\/span>–er me<\/span>; *<\/span>
\n O LORD, make haste<\/span> to help me.<\/span><\/p>\n

15 Let them be ashamed and altogether dismayed who seek after my life to des-troy<\/span> it; *<\/span>
\n let them draw back and be disgraced who take pleasure in my<\/span> mis-for-tune.<\/span><\/p>\n

16 Let those who say “Aha!”\u00a0and gloat over me be con-found<\/span>-ed, *<\/span>
\n because they are<\/span> a-shamed.<\/span><\/p>\n

17 Let all who seek you rejoice in you and be glad<\/span>; *<\/span>
\n let those who love your salvation continually say, “Great is<\/span> the \u00a0LORD!”<\/span><\/p>\n

18 Though I am poor and af-flic<\/span>-ted, *<\/span>
\n the Lord will have re-gard<\/span> for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

19 You are my helper and my de-liv<\/span>-erer; *<\/span>
\n do not tarry, O<\/span> my God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spir<\/span>-it: *<\/span>
\n as\u00a0it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ev<\/span>-er. A-men.<\/span><\/p>\n
