Psalm 49<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Audite haec, omnes<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

1 Hear this, all you peoples;<\/span>\u00a0hearken, all you who dwell in the world<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n you of high degree and low, rich and poor<\/span> to-ge-ther.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 My mouth shall speak\u00a0of wis<\/span>-dom, *<\/span>
\n and my heart shall meditate on un<\/span>-der-stand-ing.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 I will incline my ear to a\u00a0pro<\/span>-verb *<\/span>
\n and set forth my riddle up-on<\/span> the harp.<\/span><\/p>\n

4 Why should I be afraid in evil days<\/span><\/span>,<\/span> *<\/span>
\n when the wickedness of those at my heels<\/span> sur-rounds me,<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

5 The wickedness of those who put their trust in their goods<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n and boast of their<\/span> great ri-ches?<\/span><\/p>\n

6 We can never ransom our-selves<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n or deliver to God the price of<\/span> our life;<\/span><\/p>\n

7 For the ransom of our life is so great<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n that we should never have e-nough<\/span> to pay it,<\/span><\/p>\n

8 In order to live for ever and ev<\/span>-er, *<\/span>
\n and never see<\/span> the grave.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

9 For we see that the wise die also;<\/span>\u00a0like the dull and stupid they per<\/span>-ish *<\/span>
\n and leave their wealth to those who<\/span> come af-ter them<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

10 Their graves shall be their homes for ever,<\/span>\u00a0their dwelling places from generation to gene-ra<\/span>-tion, *<\/span>
\n though they call the lands after their<\/span> own names.<\/span><\/p>\n

11 Even though honored, they cannot live for ev<\/span>-er; *<\/span>
\n they are like the beasts<\/span> that per-ish.<\/span><\/p>\n

12 Such is the way of those who foolishly trust in them-selves<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n and the end of those who delight in their<\/span> own words.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chant<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

13 Like a flock of sheep they are destined to die;<\/span>\u00a0Death is their shep<\/span>-herd; *<\/span>
\n they go down straightway to<\/span> the grave.<\/span><\/p>\n

14 Their form shall waste a-way<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n and the land of the dead shall be<\/span> their home.<\/span><\/p>\n

15 But God will ransom my life<\/span>; *<\/span>
\nshe will snatch me from the grasp<\/span> of death.<\/span><\/p>\n

16 Do not be envious when some become rich<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n or when the grandeur of their house<\/span> in-crea-ses;<\/span><\/p>\n

17 For they will carry nothing away at their death<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n nor will their gran<\/span>-deur fol-low them<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

18 Though they thought highly of themselves while they lived<\/span>, *<\/span>
\n and were praised for their<\/span> suc-cess,<\/span><\/p>\n

19 They shall join the company of their fore<\/span>-bears, *<\/span>
\n who will never see<\/span> the light again.<\/span><\/p>\n

20 Those who are honored,<\/span>\u00a0but have no under-stand<\/span>-ing, *<\/span>
\n are like the beasts<\/span> that per-ish.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spir<\/span>-it: *<\/span>
